Roy Harris says of Maggie Christl “Well she certainly has found a style, and a voice too, a big strong, mature voice, with the kind of edge possessed by some of the top Scottish women – I’m talking about Robertson, Wellington, Fisher”

Maggie’s music comes out of a bittersweet life story. Her childhood was a time of great hardship. But she was blessed with a voice and a love for music that would take her around the world, singing the traditional music of her homeland, Scotland.

Maggie and her husband Michael Johnston have been playing traditional and contemporary music together for 10 years. Their professional relationship grew into a deep friendship and true love. They were married and moved to the US, from Canada, in 1992.

Besides providing guitar accompaniment for Maggie, Michael shines in his own right as an instrumentalist, playing arrangements of traditional Scottish dance tunes on guitar. Together, Maggie and Mike have performed across Canada and the Northeast US, including a number of Artist-in-Residency programs at libraries and universities.

This program, their first concert appearance since moving to Boston, is not to be missed.
